RIA and Cloud Computing Apps
We are using software applications more than ever before. As the demand for new capabilities and functions grows, companies strive to provide an adequate response to business needs. The rate of application evolution places an ever-larger burden on the shoulders of software producers, vendors, and even consumers. In addition, much of the costly software used by organizations was not designed to respond to a rapidly changing marketplace or highly dispersed workforce, requiring its substitution or modernization.

VMware Buys Blue Lane in Hush-Hush Deal
It appears that VMware quietly bought a little California number last month called Blue Lane Technologies, which, according to its web site, is no longer selling its wares on VMware’s instructions. Blue Lane’s stock in trade was securing physical and virtual data centers with “zero footprint, zero downtime and zero tuning” - it had a virtual appliance called VirtualShield – developed with VMware – that removed nasty content before it got to the virtual server via a technique called inline patching.

XML Heaven or XML Hell?
"With proper markup/logic separation, a POJO data model, and a refreshing lack of XML…" So begins the introduction to one of the current crop of open source Web application frameworks on its Web site. Sadly this seems to be a common sentiment within the Java framework development community; the phrase "XML Hell" is thrown around with the same vehemence once reserved for the "DLL Hell" so characteristic of early versions of Microsoft Windows.

How to Find and Resolve Capacity Bottlenecks in Virtual Server Environments
Currently, an overwhelming majority of organizations are migrating and consolidating servers from physical to virtual environments. While the savings of the virtualized data center are extremely compelling, there is a new set of challenges that IT staffs didn't have to deal with in the physical world. One of the challenges is getting used to the fact that all hardware resources: CPU, memory, storage, and network utilization are shared between virtual machines. This means that applications and users can impact each other and therefore resource monitoring becomes extremely important. If you don't closely monitor resource consumption by each virtual machine and simply keep adding more virtual machines without doing analysis on how this will impact all four core resources, the result will be bad performance and even system downtime. Ultimately, this means unhappy users, dissatisfied managers, and a negative impact on the virtualization project. So, you need to find a way to prevent this problem.
